The Louisiana Purchase

Picture
Thomas Jefferson was conflicted about whether or not to purchase this 828,000 mile tract of land.  He had a strict interpretation of the Constitution, and didn’t think that the Constitution allowed for such a monumental purchase.  Jefferson decided to buy the land, and he bought it for $15 million, which amounted to a mere 3 cents an acre.  This more than doubled the size of the United States.
